 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Proper maintenance protects your investment and keeps your carpets beautiful for years to come

  • Vacuum frequently to remove surface dirt. To prevent excessive wear on carpet fibers, use a suction-only canister vacuum or adjust your vacuum brush to the setting furthest from the carpet’s surface
  • Treat all spills immediately
  • Invest in professional cleaning as needed. Avoid stain-repelling treatments with silicone; they can make soiling worse
  • To prevent dirt from being tracked onto your carpets, place doormats at all commonly used entrances and clean them regularly
  • Change vacuum cleaner bags when half full
  • Regularly check and change heating and air-conditioning filters

 TIPS FOR SPOT REMOVAL

Quick removal of spots and spills is essential for keeping your carpet beautiful. Here are some tips for success:

  • Always have the right cleaning materials on hand—spills can happen any time
  • Blot (don’t rub!) spills immediately with white paper towels or a clean, absorbent cloth
  • Only use pH-neutral cleaners and solvents. Pre-test cleaners in a small, inconspicuous area
  • Different stains require different cleaning treatments and cleaners—bookmark the chart below for reference
  • Apply the appropriate cleaner to an absorbent towel and gently blot up the spill. To avoid re-applying the staining material, flip the cloth
  • Avoid excess water when cleaning; do not oversaturate your carpet
  • To prevent a stain from spreading, work inward from the edges of the stain as you clean.
  • Be aware that cleaning agents may take a few minutes to start working
  • After the stain has been removed, use paper towels or a dry absorbent cloth to blot residual moisture.
  • Rinse stain area with clean water, then dry by blotting with paper towels

 PROFESSIONAL CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Seek out dry cleaning systems such as Host®, Wool Clean by Wools of New Zealand , Capture®, Dri-Mate®, and Chem-Dry
  • For tackless wall-to-wall carpets, truck-mounted steam extractors are acceptable. However, we do not recommend them for loose rugs
  • Avoid portable units, such as Rug Doctor or Bonnet systems
